| Cafe Des Arts Praslin. Praslin,
the second largest Seychelles island, lies 40 km northwest of Mahé and was named
the Island of Palms by the first recorded visitor, Lazare Picault, in 1744. Measuring
just 38 square kilometres in area, Praslin is many people's idea of paradise.
The coastline is scattered with large rocks and surrounded by coral reefs teeming
with life, while the interior is mainly untouched forest. On the west coast of
Praslin is one of the world's most beautiful beaches, Anse Lazio. The
Hotel du Cafe des Arts is situated on the beautiful 4kms Cote D'Or beach, offering
safe swimming for the family all year round. It faces the tiny islands of Chauve
Souris and St Pierre. Created by two well-known local artists, it is disguinguished
by its style and fine craftmanship. This small 5 room hotel is one of the secrets
of Seychelles. Four of the rooms are in the quiet tropical garden, built in the
colonial style with private verandas. The fifth room is a fully refurbished suite
facing the sea. Breakfast is served on an idyllic setting on the beach and fixed
menu dinners are also an option. Each room is
very large and built in local materials: hardwoods, coconut and bamboo; each is
equipped with shower, private verandah, king-size bed, wicker furniture, minibar,
electric kettle and overhead ceiling fan. The rooms are adjacent to one another
and are situated in tropical gardens. A small garden area where the client can
have breakfast, is directly on the beach. It looks over emerald waters towards
St.Pierre islet. This small establishment wholeheartedly lives up to its enchanted
setting... Apart from its beaches, which are regularly rated in the Top 10 in
the world, the main attraction of Praslin is the National Park or "Vallée de Mai",
which is home to a prehistoric rainforest of huge trees that dominate the landscape.
The "Coco-de-Mer" coconut is famous for its large size, and infamous because of
its striking similarity to the female genitalia! Large, "Dali-esque" granite formations
decorate almost every beach on the island. The 8000-year-old coral reefs, populated
by fantastically-coloured reef fish, make the island a mecca for snorkellers and
divers. The unique beauty of its reef world cannot be found on dry land, but is
almost equalled by the beauty of the island's spectacular, solitary beaches. | Honeymoon
