ROOTS: (Friday – Full Day) Ile Aux Aigrettes / Manioc Biscuit Factory / Saint
Aubin / “La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes”. In the historical bay of Vieux
Grand Port on the south-east coast of the island, discover the nature reserve
of “Ile aux Aigrettes” which constitutes a refuge for endemic species of animals
including the Mauritius Pink Pigeon and the Ornate Day Gecko. Mahebourg, whose
name honours the famous French governor Mahe de Labourdonnais, is the village
where you can taste the traditional “biscuit manioc”, made from cassava according
to an old family recipe. Visit an anthurium and a vanilla nursery, as well as
the Rum Museum at Saint Aubin, a colonial house built in 1819. « La Vanille Reserve
des Mascareignes » constitutes a refuge for lethargic crocodiles, bats, giant
tortoises and other reptiles. An insectarium presents more than 20,000 species
